PROJECT: STRATEGY MAP ILLUSTRATION
CLIENT: MATERNAL MENTAL HEALTH ALLIANCE (MMHA)
The Maternal Mental Health Alliance (MMHA) is a UK-wide charity and network of over 100 organisations, dedicated to ensuring women and families affected by perinatal mental health problems have access to high quality, comprehensive perinatal mental health care. They bring the maternal mental health community together and make change happen by combining the power of real-life experience with clinical and professional expertise.
OBJECTIVE
To visualise MMHA’s strategy for the next 3 years. The strategy is based around 4 pillars:
Reaching All Women
Raising Awareness
Excellent Services
Listening to Women
It was discussed with the client that the strategy should take the form of an ‘Amusement Park’ style map, with different areas of equal importance to describe the 4 pillars. There isn’t a designated route, or a particular order in which to journey around the map.
The Strategy Illustration and the individual areas/component elements are to be used for presentations and on the client’s website & social media channels.
The colours used are derived from the existing MMHA brand palette.
The individual areas of the map can be used separately in presentations, to highlight and help describe each of the Strategy pillars
PROCESS
Following some discussion with the client about the strategy, I was supplied with a a full (& quite lengthy!) strategy document. Some key phrases were highlighted, and my challenge was to distill the over-arching themes and objectives down into clear and ‘easily understandable’ illustrations, which would work together as a populated map, to include a diverse range of women and families receiving support from MMHA.
In creating the map, with a brief that essentially was quite fun in terms of the creative direction (‘Amusement Park’ map style), I felt it was very important to get the tone right. The strategy document takes a serious approach to the provision of mental health support, and there are various levels of complexity and subtleties. The aim of the illustration was to help bring the strategy to life and make it more accessible.
CLIENT FEEDBACK
“ I love this so much! Thank you, you’ve done such a fantastic job bringing the strategy to life on a page – I have no idea how you managed this, but it’s brilliant!”
