CLIENT: THE ORCHARD PROJECT
The Orchard Project is the only national charity dedicated solely to the creation, restoration and celebration of community orchards. Their aim is that every household in the UK’s town and cities be within walking distance of a productive, well-cared-for, community-run orchard.
I have worked with The Orchard Project for a number of years, on a few different projects - see links to those below.
OBJECTIVE
I was asked to create an illustration to accompany a new bedtime story, with a strong apple based theme! The Orchard Project commissioned the story, as part of their celebrations of Apple Day 2020, and to help engage kids in the magical world of orchards and heritage apples (which often have funny names!). The illustration would be used on the client’s website and on social media to help publicise and share the story.

The story is read aloud by the charity’s patron, – celebrity gardener, Guardian columnist and author, Alys Fowler, and is perfect for 5 – 9 year olds.
“Mervyn mouse lives happily next to an apple orchard. Until, one day, he gets stuck in a car boot and ends up in a supermarket car park!
